Capture and share what's on your iPad screen to document issues, demonstrate procedures, or share important information with fellow councillors!

Taking Screenshots

1 For iPads with Home button: Press the Home button and the top button at the same time.
2 For iPads without Home button: Press the top button and either volume button at the same time.
3 Edit immediately by tapping the thumbnail that appears in the bottom-left corner of your screen.
4 Use markup tools to add text, arrows, shapes, or highlight specific areas before saving or sharing.
Quick Tip: If you have an Apple Pencil, you can swipe up from the bottom corner of the screen to take a screenshot and immediately enter markup mode.

Recording Your Screen

1 Add Screen Recording to Control Centre by going to Settings > Control Centre > Customise Controls, then tap the + next to Screen Recording.
2 Open Control Centre by swiping down from the top-right corner of your screen (or up from the bottom on older iPads with Home buttons).
3 Tap the Screen Recording button (a circle within a circle) to start a three-second countdown.
4 To record with audio narration, press and hold the Screen Recording button, then tap the microphone icon to turn it on before tapping Start Recording.
5 To stop recording, tap the red status bar at the top of the screen and confirm by tapping "Stop".
Council Meeting Tip: When recording a demonstration of digital processes for other council members, turn on the microphone to explain what you're doing as you navigate through the steps.

Editing Screenshots and Recordings

1 Find your screenshots and recordings in the Photos app, in the "Screenshots" or "Recents" albums.
2 Edit screenshots by tapping on the image, then tapping "Edit" to crop, rotate, or adjust colours.
3 Trim screen recordings by tapping on the video, then "Edit", and using the yellow trim handles at the bottom to remove unwanted sections.
4 Add markup by tapping the three dots (...) in the Edit interface, then selecting Markup to draw, add text, or highlight areas.
Privacy Tip: When sharing screenshots or recordings of sensitive council matters, use the markup tools to blur or black out any confidential information before sharing.

Sharing Screenshots and Recordings

1 Open the screenshot or recording in the Photos app.
2 Tap the share icon (square with an up arrow) in the bottom-left corner.
3 Choose how to share: AirDrop, Mail, Messages, or other apps like Teams or Slack.
4 For large screen recordings, consider using Mail Drop or a cloud storage service like iCloud Drive to share.
5 To add to a document, copy the screenshot and paste it directly into Notes, Pages, or Word documents.
File Size Tip: Screen recordings can become quite large. If you're having trouble sharing, try trimming unnecessary portions or adjusting the quality in Settings > Camera > Record Video.

Advanced Screenshot Techniques

1 Take a full-page screenshot in Safari by taking a regular screenshot, tapping the thumbnail, then selecting the "Full Page" tab at the top.
2 Use Instant Markup by immediately tapping the screenshot thumbnail when it appears to add annotations before saving.
3 Create a PDF from a screenshot by using the share menu and selecting "Create PDF" or "Print" then pinching out on the preview.
4 Use Back Tap (on compatible models) by going to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap to assign screenshot function to a double or triple tap on the back of your device.
Organisation Tip: Create an album in Photos specifically for council-related screenshots and recordings to keep them separate from personal media.
