Control Sounds and Messages on Your iPad
Learn how to control what noises your iPad makes and what messages pop up, so you're not disturbed when you don't want to be:
Quiet Time Settings
Focus mode helps you only get messages that are important right now:
Setting Up Quiet Times
- Go to Settings > Focus
- Pick from choices like Do Not Disturb, Personal, Work, or Sleep
- Choose which people and apps can send you messages during quiet time
- Set a schedule so quiet time turns on automatically
Special Quiet Time Settings
- For each quiet time, choose which stuff you want to see
- Only show certain calendar events, emails, messages, or web pages
- Have different home screens for different quiet times
- Let people know you're busy when they try to message you
Cool Trick: Automatic Quiet Time
Your iPad can turn on quiet time by itself based on time, where you are, or what apps you're using. You can set up a Council Meeting Focus to only alert you about emergencies during Council meetings.
Message Pop-Up Settings
- Message Summary - Get all your less important messages in one bunch at a time you choose. Set this in Settings > Notifications > Scheduled Summary.
- Choose How Apps Message You - Pick how each app can notify you (pop-ups, sounds, red dots) in Settings > Notifications > [App Name].
- Super Important Messages - Some messages can break through quiet time if they're really important. Choose which ones in each app's settings.
- Grouping Messages - Choose if messages should be grouped by app, by topic, or shown separately.
Sound Controls
- Volume Limits - Set how loud your iPad can go in Settings > Sounds & Haptics to protect your ears.
- Special Sounds - Give different people or apps their own special sounds so you know who's messaging you without looking.
- Sound Recognition - Your iPad can tell you when it hears important sounds like fire alarms, doorbells, or crying babies.
- 3D Sound - With some headphones, you can hear sounds like they're coming from all around you!
Words in Pictures
- Copy Words from Pictures - Tap and hold on words in any picture to select and copy them
- Camera Word Reader - Point your camera at words and tap the text button to use those words right away
- Translate Words - Select words in pictures and choose Translate to change them to another language
- Smart Detection - Your iPad can find phone numbers, addresses, and package tracking numbers in pictures so you can use them with a tap
Side Switch Button
You can choose what the switch on the side of your iPad does. Go to Settings > General > Side Switch to pick between turning off sounds or stopping the screen from rotating.
Using these sound and message settings will help you focus when you need to and still get important messages when they matter!
